STAGE TWO

        SECOND STAGE:  Selection of six to ten finalists to participate in the second stage will be decided before the anonymous submissions are identified. In addition, the Jury, at its discretiion, will make up to six merit awards at the first stage jurying. To qualify for stage two, competitors must have demonstrated technical ability in the design and implementation of projects similar in scope to the Holocaust Memorial project. The evaluation of a competitor's qualifications will be at the discretion of the sponsor, with the advice of the Jurors. In the event that the qualifications of a selected finalist competitor do not meet the criteria established by the Jurors and sponsor, the competitor will be given a period of time to associate with such qualified consultants or specialists as the jurors may deem necessary, and then will be invited to participate in the second stage jurying.

SECOND STAGE PROGRAM: Each approved second stage finalist will receive an stipend of $2,500 for developing a scale model and presentation. The sponsor reserves the right to modify the program, upon professional advice, in response to considerations and issues raised by the finalists' specific proposals. A contract which governs particpation in stage two will be signed by both competitor and sponsor. Reproductions of various second stage models may be sold to benefit the Holocaust Memorial endowment fund. The authors of the models will be entitled to receive commissions as set forth in the contract. 

 SECOND STAGE REQUIREMENTS:
 
    (1.)  Scale Model: Detailed scale model to represent the proposed Memorial. Ratio of model should be 20:1 or smaller; i.e. no larger than 2 ft. x 3 ft. footprint. Competitors are responsible to ensure that their presentation arrives in good condition. Insurance for individual works in transit is optional and the responsibility of the individual competitor.
 
     (2.) Large Board Style Layout: One to four eye-level perspective views or renderings showing various elevations of the Memorial in the context of its immediate surroundings. Illustrations should be presented on rigid 1/2 inch foam panels (30" x 40") on one side only;  up to four panels may be used.
 
 
(3.) Perspecive Rendering: Competitors should make renderings and other sketches to best communicate design intention. An eye-level elevation showing the Memorial from the Boardwalk side is required. In addition, we highly recommend a few more diagrammatic or perspective views. Space permitting, additional details at larger scales of partial areas may be included, but are not required.
 
(4.) Optional: Lighting, sound and audiovisual elements proposed as integral design features are welcomed.
 
 
 (5.) Text: Lettering to title and identify elements of the proposed Memorial may be included with minimum font size 12 point. Principle materials and methods to construct the Memorial should be clearly indicated, bearing in mind the corrosive characteristics of a salt water environment. 
 
      (6.) Site Plan: A plan (1" : 4 feet scale approx.) must be included on the lower board and show the design concept in the context of its immediate surroundings. At the least, it should indicate the placement and extent of the Memorial and treatment of any remaining area. The site plan should be oriented so that the Boardwalk is at bottom .
 
 (7.) Descriptive Commentary: A single typed page of explanatory text affixed to the upper right corner of the first panel. Minimum font size is 12 point.
